Hi my name is Alison and I run Onyx Health and Fitness.

I have been working in the fitness industry since 1992, firstly as an aerobic, body conditioning and step instructor. In 1998 I further qualified to teach exercise for older person and after various courses, modules and workshops went on to work in the cardiac rehab and GP referral field. I then expanded into the Yoga world which I have been teaching since 2002.

Soon after I was introduced to Pilates and became hooked so in 2003 embarked on my most challenging training to date with 'Body Control'. My most recent qualification has been 'Postural Stability' which enables me to work in falls prevention.

This has taken me to level 4 - advanced instructor level and combined with my experience and knowledge of special populations has awarded me the title of Clinical Exercise Specialist. As well as classes I can offer personal and private teaching in the 'Onyx Pilates Studio' . Here I can give a totally personal and prescriptive programme. Keeping up to date with the latest research is important to me so I regularly attend courses and workshops so that I can offer the highest standard in teaching to my clients. 

I have recently become an 'imovefreely' instructor and am currently studying for a Diploma to become a Biomechanics Coach, not only to further enhance my anatomy and physiology knowledge but also to give me the skills to perform full body biomechanical screens, establishing any areas of mechanical weakness in an individual and prescribing exercises to help them to move and feel better.

I believe that exercise should be available to all whatever the age or ability and that a better quality of life can be achieved with the right exercises. 

On occasional weekends throughout the year you can also find me at Champneys where I present masterclasses in Pilates www.champneys.com . I have also be very honoured to teach 'Pilates for Dancers' at the biggest dance exhibition in the country  MOVE IT, for the last three years.
